How many attempts are allowed for TNPSC Group 1?

Quick answer

No limit (within age limit). You can apply every cycle as long as you are within the age window for your category.

Unlike UPSC, TNPSC does not count attempts. The age limit is the only ceiling, and reserved categories get significant relaxations.

Worth knowing

  • TNPSC does not count attempts; the age window is the only ceiling
  • Minimum age 21; general category upper limit 32 years
  • No upper age limit for Destitute Widow, so no cap on attempts either
  • Fees: ₹100 exam fee plus a one-time ₹150 OTR registration; SC, SCA, ST, PwBD and destitute widow candidates are fee-exempt

What each attempt involves

  • Prelims: General Studies + Aptitude, 300 marks
  • Mains: 3 Papers - GS I, GS II, Tamil/English, 500 marks
  • Interview: Personality & aptitude assessment, 120 marks
